Chapter 8

SNMP Commands

This chapter contains a description of the commands available under the CLI to set and display the SNMP Agent IP and SNMP parameters and databases. Type <SNMP> to view SNMP related commands.

SNMP Community String Commands

SNMP Community strings authenticate access to the MIB (Management Information Base). Community strings function as “passwords”embedded in every SNMP packet.The community string must match one of the two community strings conﬁgured in the switch for the message to be processed. There are two community strings, one for each of the following types of accesses:

❑read - mode gives read access to all the objects in the MIB, but does not allow write access

❑write - mode gives read and write access to all objects in the

MIB

get-comm

get-comm {readwrite*}

This command displays the SNMP community string for a given access mode ( read or write ). If the access mode is speciﬁed as *, both the read and the write community strings are displayed.
