Disposing of Used Batteries

The replacement battery kit includes the instructions and packaging required to return used batteries to the appropriate location for disposal.

Do not dispose of used batteries with general office or household waste. Return the used module for proper disposal to either:

Compaq, your authorized Compaq Partners, or their agents

A recycling center that meets all local environmental standards.

Care and Storage of Batteries

To maximize the life of Compaq R6000 UPS batteries:

Minimize the amount of time the UPS is using battery power. Match the UPS input voltage range configuration with your utility voltage. Refer to the section, “Using the LCD Menu to Configure the R6000,” in Chapter 4 for more information.

Keep the area around the UPS clean and dust-free. If the environment is very dusty, clean the outside of the UPS regularly with a vacuum cleaner.

Maintain the ambient temperature at 25oC (77oF).

If storing a UPS for an extended period, recharge the batteries every six months:

a.Connect your UPS to utility power; refer to Chapter 2, “Installation.”

b.Allow the UPS to remain in Standby mode. (See Chapter 3, “Operation”)

c.Let the UPS run to charge the batteries for 24 hours.

d.Update the Battery Recharge Date label.

The R6000 supports the use of two hot-pluggable Extended Runtime Modules (ERMs). The maintenance of the ERM’s batteries is the same as for that of the
