Numbering interfaces
Before installing a HIM/MIM, you must install a FIP. A FIP-210 supports both HIMs and MIMs, while a FIP-110 supports only MIMs, and a FIP-600 supports only HIMs.
The interfaces of the router are numbered in the form of interface-type X/Y/Z, Where,
•interface-type—Type of the interface such as GE port and serial port.
•X—Number of the slot where the FIP/SAP resides (for example, blue numbers in Figure 118 through Figure 120).
Different HIMs/MIMs on the same FIP have the same slot number X.
•Y—Sub-slot number, the number of the slot where the HIM/MIM resides on the FIP. If a SAP/OAP is installed, the sub-slot number is 0.
Different interfaces on the same HIM/MIM have the same sub-slot number Y.
•Z—Sequence number of the interface on the HIM/MIM or on the SAP/OAP.
For each type of interface, the sequence number Z starts from 0 on the HIM/MIM.
Examples
Example 1
A MIM-2GBE module is installed on the FIP-110 in slot 3.
Fixed GigabitEthernet interfaces on the FIP-110
•GigabitEthernet 3/0/0
•GigabitEthernet 3/0/1
NOTE:
The sub-slot number Y of fixed GE interfaces on a FIP is 0.
GigabitEthernet interfaces on the MIM-2GBE
1.If the MIM-2GBE is installed in slot 1 of the FIP-110, the GigabitEthernet interfaces are:
{GigabitEthernet 3/1/0
{GigabitEthernet 3/1/1
2.If the MIM-2GBE is installed in slot 2 of the FIP-110, the GigabitEthernet interfaces are:
{GigabitEthernet 3/2/0
{GigabitEthernet 3/2/1
Example 2
A SAP-48GBE module is installed in slot 3.
The GigabitEthernet interfaces on the SAP-48GBE are GigabitEthernet 3/0/0 through GigabitEthernet 3/0/47.
