ALLBASE/NET giv es users the same SQL functionality pro vided by the equivalent version of ALLBASE/SQL, with the follo wing exceptions:

DBEnvironments cannot be created remotely .

New log ￿les cannot be created remotely .

Long column data t ypes cannot be used remotely .

The ALLBASE/SQL database administration utilities SQLUtil, SQLGEN, and SQLMigrate cannot access a remote DBEn vironment.

How ALLBASE/NET Works

ALLBASE/NET uses a clien t/server architecture. The application runs on the clien t node and the ALLBASE/SQL DBEn vironment resides on the serv er node. The clien t and server are connected by a LAN (Local Area Net work) or a WAN (Wide Area Network).

A server node for one application can also be a clien t node for another application that accesses another DBEn vironment. In the illustration belo w, Node B is the serv er node for the application on Node A, and it is also a clien t node when accessing Node C.
