alias name

The unique name on the clien t that represents a speci￿c DBEnvironment on the server. The alias name is part of eac h alias pro￿le in the AliasDB ￿le.

alias pro￿le

A set of information that is associated with the alias name for a DBEn vironment. Alias pro￿les are contained in the AliasDB ￿le on the clien t. They are created and main tained by the system administrator using NETUtil.

AliasDB ￿le

The AliasDB ￿le con tains sets of information, called alias pro￿les, that are associated with each alias name for a DBEn vironment. The AliasDB ￿le resides on the clien t. It is created when the ￿rst alias pro￿le is en tered.

ALLBASE/NET

ALLBASE/NET is a softw are product that allo ws an application on one HP-UX or MPE/iX client to access a remote ALLBASE/SQL DBEn vironment on another HP-UX or MPE/iX server. Applications suc h as ISQL, ALLBASE preprocessors, ALLBASE/Query , ALLBASE/4GL, and Information Access SQL/UX as w ell as user-written applications, can use ALLBASE/NET to access a remote DBEn vironment.

ALLBASE/SQL

ALLBASE/SQL is an SQL database managemen t system that resides on the HP 3000 Series 900 and HP 9000 Series 800 and Series 300.

ARPA services

ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency) is the net work software interface that enables communication between machines on the same net work via TCP/IP.

authority

An authority is a permission gran ted to a user to access speci￿c objects for speci￿c purposes within an ALLBASE/SQL DBEn vironment. See also object.

client

A system that secures the services of another system (a serv er). With ALLBASE/NET, an application on the clien t can access a remote DBEn vironment on the server. In some cases, a computer can act as both a clien t and a server. See also server.

CONNECT authorit y

CONNECT authorit y allows a user to access a DBEn vironment. A user with CONNECT authority has all table and view authorities that ma y have been granted to the special user

PUBLIC.
