Preface

The ALLBASE/NET User's Guide describes ALLBASE/NET, a product that allo ws an application on one MPE/iX or HP-UX system to access an ALLBASE/SQL DBEn vironment on another MPE/iX system or HP-UX system. This man ual is written for the system administrator who is using ALLBASE/NET on an MPE/iX system. He or she uses this guide to understand ho w ALLBASE/NET works and to learn ho w to use the NETUtil utilit y to maintain necessary ￿les. In addition, portions of this guide will be of in terest to application programmers and to users of ALLBASE/SQL DBEn vironments, particularly c hapters 1, 3, and 4.

In some HP documen tation and in talking with HP 3000 users, y ou will encounter references to MPE XL, the direct predecessor of MPE/iX. MPE/iX is a superset of MPE XL. All programs written for MPE XL will run without c hange under MPE/iX. You can continue to use MPE XL system documen tation, although it ma y not refer to features added to the operating system to support POSIX (for example, hierarc hical directories). This guide is divided as follo ws:
