database

A structured arrangemen t of data elemen ts designed for the easy selection of information. In ALLBASE/SQL, a database is a collection of tables, views, and indexes ha ving the same ownership in a DBEnvironment.

DBEnvironment

A collection of les con taining one or more ALLBASE/SQL databases, plus other en tities that contain information for all databases in the DBEn vironment.

DBEUserID

A login name that is one t ype of owner of database objects.

HP NewWave Access

The PC software, running in the HP NewW ave environment, that works with Information Access SQL/UX on the HP 9000 Series 800 clien t to connect the PC to local or remote databases.

host name

The \ARPA host name" is used b y ARPA Services/BSD IPC. On MPE/iX ARP A resolves host names by attempting to con tact domain serv ers listed in the RESLVCNF.NET.SYS or HOSTS.NET.SYS le. On HP-UX ARPA resolves host names by attempting to con tact domain servers listed in the /etc/resolv.conf or /etc/hosts le.

Information Access PC

An application that runs on the HP V ectra or on supported IBM and Compaq PCs. It gives PC users access to ALLBASE/SQL tables b y interacting with Information Access SQL/UX on an HP 9000 Series 800 clien t.

Information Access SQL/XL

An application running on an HP 3000 Series 900 clien t that gives users running Information Access PC access to ALLBASE/SQL tables.

ISQL (Interactive Structured Query Language)

The interactive interface to ALLBASE/SQL is the tool y ou use for ad hoc queries as w ell as for loading and unloading data and other database administration tasks.

module

A group of sections stored in the DBEn vironment when an embedded SQL program is preprocessed or when the ISQL command PREP ARE is issued. The module is activ ated when the program is run or when the EXECUTE command is issued in ISQL.

NS

NS is the network software interface that enables comm unication between machines on the same network via the TCP/IP protocol.

native language

The language of the DBEn vironment. In ALLBASE/NET and ALLBASE/SQL, the default language is NATIVE-3000. PORTNLS is used.

NETUtil

NETUtil is the command-driv en utility provided by ALLBASE/NET for creating and maintaining the AliasDB and NETUsers les.

The serv er node name is not case-sensitive and is stored and displa yed exactly as it was entered. However, \node" is the same as \NODE" when the SQL application is running and executes a CONNECT or ST ART DBE command with an alias name.
