Bay C is for a 3.5-inch slim-high removable-media drive
or a SCSI hard disk drive.
Note: The electromagnet ic interferen ce (E M I) in tegrity and
cooling of the server are bot h protected by having
bay s A thro ugh D cover e d or oc cupi ed . Wh en you
install a drive, save the filler panel from the bay, in
case you later remove th e drive and do not replac e it
wi th an ot her.

Preinst allation steps (all bays)

Before you install drives in the server, verify that you have all
the cables and any other equipment specifie d in the docu-
mentati on that comes with the drive. You might als o need to
perform certain preinstallation activities. Some of the steps
are required only during the initial installation of an option.
1. Read “Safety information” on page 155, “Handl ing elec-
trostatic discharge-sensitive devices” on page 158, and
the documentation that comes with the drive.
2. Choose the bay in which you want to install the drive.
3. Check the instructions that come with the drive to see if
you need to set any switches or jumper s on the d rive.
Be sure to set the SCSI ID on a SCSI device.

Installing a drive in bays A, B, C, or D

Note: The EMI integr ity and cooling of the s erver are both
protected by having the bays covered or oc cupied.
When you install a drive, save the filler panel from the
bay, in case you later re move the drive and do not
replace it with another.
