Playing back discs

In the DVD operation sections, the following marks are used to indicate disc availability:

1Insert a disc in the disc slot.

With the label side up

To insert an 8-cm disc, insert it into the centre of the disc slot.

•When the disc is detected, the respective disc type indicator lights in the display window (and playback starts automatically for some discs).

•If you insert a wrong disc, press 0 on the unit or EJECT on the remote control to eject the disc.

NOTES

•If a disc has been already loaded, you cannot insert another disc.

•When inserting a double-sided disc, make sure that insert it with the surface you want to play facing down.

•If you insert a disc with the unit turned off, the unit comes on with the DVD player selected for the playback source.

•If the unit has been turned on with the HDD deck selected, press DVD/HDD so that the DVD lamp lights.

2Start playback.

Press 3 (SELECT).

•The digital disc audio format indicator lights in the display window, and the unit starts playback from the beginning.

•While playing an MP3 disc or a JPEG disc, the associated CONTROL screen appears on the TV. For details, see pages 61 and 64.

Before performing any operations:

•Turn on the TV and select an appropriate input (AV) mode.

•During the following periods, the unit will not accept any button operation:

-If the unit is plugged in: For about 30 seconds. The illumination lamp on the unit flashes during this period. During this period, disc insertion will not be accepted either.

-If the unit is turned on with the HDD deck selected: For about 20 seconds.

During this period, the opening screen appears.

About invalid operation icon

When the unit does not accept an operation, appears on the TV.

•Operations are occasionally unacceptable even if is not displayed.

If a menu is shown on the TV screen

When inserting a DVD Video, SVCD or VCD, the menu recorded in the disc will be shown on the TV. Using the menu, you can select a desired item to play.

For DVD Video

Press 3 / 2 / ° / 5 to move to select an item you want, then press ENTER.

• The unit starts playing back the selected item.

For SVCD/VCD

Press the number buttons to select an item you want.

• The unit starts playing back the selected item.

NOTES

•If you operate the HDD deck during playback, playback stops automatically.

•Do not insert an unplayable disc (see page 4).
