Using the Floppy Drive

The computer comes with a removable 1.44-MB, 3.5-inch, high- density floppy drive, which can read, write to, and format the following disks:

A high-density, 3.5-inch disk, which stores 1.44 MB of data.

A double-density, 3.5-inch disk, which stores 720 KB of data.

The floppy drive in your portable computer is smaller but more power-efficient than a floppy drive in a desktop computer. To get the best performance from your floppy drive, handle the drive carefully when installing or removing it and use high-quality floppy disks.

The floppy drive fits in your computer’s SmartBay and can also be attached by cable to a connector on the outside of the computer. For information on installing the floppy drive, see “Using the SmartBay” on page 27 and see “Connecting the Floppy Drive to the Floppy Connector” on page 25.

To use a floppy disk, insert it into the floppy drive (Figure 13).
