5.6. Troubleshooting the Multimedia Server

5.6.1. Windows Media Player

Problem Question Solution
I can’t configure WMP to find
files on the Network Space 2.
Is the Network Space 2 connected to
your computer directly via USB?
Only USBShare will be available if you connect the Network
Space 2 directly to your computer via USB. If you want to play
files located on other shares, disconnect the USB cable and con-
nect the Network Space 2 to the network.
Did you add the Network Space 2 share
or file inside a share to the WMP library?
See 3.7.2. Multimedia Server: Windows Media Player.
Certain files located on the
Network Space 2 aren’t rec-
ognized by WMP.
WMP has certain file type restrictions. Click here for a list. Note that WMP is currently incompatible with the
MKV format.

5.6.2. iTunes

Problem Question Solution
Some files files stored on the
Network Space 2 appear in
my iTunes shared playlist, but
some do not.
Is the file type compatible with iTunes
music server service?
The iTunes Server Service supports only following file types:
.mp3, .wav, .aac, .pls, and .m3u. Other files will be ignored.
I’ve activated my Network
Space 2’s multimedia service,
but I don’t see its machine
name in iTunes.
Have you turned on Library Sharing in
iTunes?
Select Preferences > Sharing > Look for shared libraries.
Why aren’t files stored on the
Network Space 2 appearing
in iTunes?
Are the files stored on a password-pro-
tected share?
iTunes Server Service will only access unprotected shares. There-
fore, put your music on OpenShare if you wish to play it using
iTunes client.
