Appendix - Fault Isolation

A.3 System Log and Status Messages

System logs contain information concerning major system events and the time they occurred which can help detect and evaluate system problems. Each time a significant event occurs, the syslog message logging facility enters an error message into the systemlog at /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log. Depending upon the severity of the error and the phase of system operation, the same message might also be displayed on the console.

System messages and fault codes are subject to change. For the most current system message information, please refer to the recent version of the HP-UX Operating System: Fault Tolerant System Administration (R1004H-04-ST).
