Beyond the Basics

6.Enter the fax number of the machine from which you’ll be polling the database file. You may use a one-touch key or a speed-dial number, or simply enter the number using numeric keypad.

214-555-1985

Note: To enter a speed-dial number, press speed dial and the desired two- digit speed-dial number.

7. Press start.

Note: If the remote fax is busy, you will see the asterisk (*) before the date in the display (see following). Then your fax will automatically attempt the call again.

Fax Ready *10:16

If you want to cancel the command, use the Canceling a delayed Command function (see page 2.10).

The Other Side of the Coin: Being Polled

Not only can you poll, you can also be polled.

To set up a document for regular polling by another Muratec or Murata machine:

1.If your fax machine is set for Tel Ready reception, press receive to change it to Auto Answer mode (such as Fax Ready, T/F Ready, Ans Ready). Important: Your machine can’t be polled if it’s in Tel Ready mode.

2.Insert the document.

3.Adjust resolution and contrast if necessary. (Your fax machine will be transmitting to the machine doing the polling.)

4.Press program, 2, mode/enter.

5.Press mode/enter. Your fax will return to standby with a “Reserved” notice, like this:

Reserved

This means your fax machine has stored a polled transmission command. While reserved, the machine can receive documents but cannot transmit.

Note: If you were using “Tel Ready” mode before step 1 and wish to return to it after the remote machine has polled your document, press receive to change the reception mode. But do this only after you are sure the remote machine has polled your document.

Limiting Polling Access to Your Fax Machine

Your fax machine’s passcode setting (see page 2.17) works for polling. If a calling fax doesn’t “present” the proper passcode, it cannot poll from your fax.

Note: However, if you’re using the Block Junk Fax feature (see page 2.18), even incoming calls which meet the passcode test must come from appropriate phone numbers.
