3.7 Caller ID service

This unit is compatible with the Caller ID service offered by your local telephone company. To use this unit’s Caller ID features, you must subscribe to a Caller ID service.

For New Zealand users:

For all local and national incoming calls, your display will show the area code (e.g. 09 for Auckland) or the cellular prefix (e.g. 0274 for Telecom Cellular) followed by the caller’s telephone number. An Auckland caller’s number will be displayed as 09XXXXXXX. The seven X’s represent the seven digits of the caller’s telephone number. A caller from a 6-digit Telecom Cellular number will be displayed as 0274XXXXXX. For incoming international calls, your display may only show 0000. For business users on a Centrex line, your display will show Centrex extension numbers in the shorter extension number format used within your company.

Caller information will not be presented on incoming fax calls if Telecom FaxAbility is used.

Although Telecom New Zealand and TelstraClear do not currently send caller name information, the caller’s name will be displayed as stored in the directory, when a call from that caller is received.

LThe name display service may not be available in some areas. For further information, please contact your telephone company.

3.7.1 How Caller ID is displayed

The calling party’s name or telephone number will be displayed after the 1st ring. You have the option of whether or not to answer the call.

The unit will automatically store caller information (name, telephone number, date and time of the call) from the 50 most recent callers.

It is possible to view caller information one at a time on the display (page 25) or print the entire Caller ID list (page 75).

LWhen caller information is received and it matches a telephone number stored in the unit’s phonebook, the stored name will be displayed and logged.

LIf the unit is connected to a PBX (Private Branch Exchange) system, caller information may not be received properly. Consult your PBX supplier.

LIf the unit cannot receive caller information, the following will be displayed:

OUT OF AREA: The caller dialled from an area which does not provide Caller ID service. PRIVATE CALLER: The caller requested not to send caller information.

LONG DISTANCE: The caller made a long distance call.

Note for Australian users:

LThe area code will need to be stored with the 8-digit telephone number.

Note for New Zealand users:

LYour telephone company may charge you for a local call if the number dialled has the area code prefix

included. If this is unacceptable, dial only the 7-digit local number. Do not dial the {0} prefix or the area code.

Missed calls

If a call is not answered, the unit treats the call as a missed call. The number of missed calls is shown on the display. This lets you know if you should view the caller list to see who called while you were out.

To confirm caller information by printing the Caller ID list (Base unit only)

To print manually, see page 75.

To print automatically after every 50 new calls, activate feature #26 (page 48).

Call Waiting Caller ID feature (KX-FC225AL only)

If you subscribe to both Caller ID and Call Waiting services, when a second call is received during a conversation, you will hear a call-waiting tone and the display will show the second caller’s information.

You can answer the second call, keeping the first call on hold. Follow your service provider/telephone company instructions using {R} on the cordless handset or {RECALL} on the base unit.

Note:

LThe second caller’s information will not be displayed when:

the first call is placed on hold,

the answering machine is recording an incoming message,

an extension telephone on the same line is in use, or

you are sending or receiving a fax document.

Using Caller ID type II (KX-FC225AL only)

When you receive a second call during a conversation, you will hear a signal tone following the call waiting tone and the conversation will be interrupted or muted for a short period of time. This is not the fault of the product as these events are normal.

Note:

LThe tones are generated by the service provider.

3.8 Viewing and calling back

Important:

LIf the area code of the received telephone number is the same as yours, the area code may need to be deleted before calling back. This may only apply to some areas. To edit the number, see page 26.
