Bit rate

Bit rate is the value indicating amount of compressed information recorded on the DVD disc per one second. The unit is Mbps (Mega bits per second) for video signals. 1Mbps indicates that the amount of information per second is 1,000,000 bits. For audio signals, kbps (kilo bits per second) is used. The larger this value, the larger the amount of information involved. However, this value does not relate to the picture and sound quality.

Chapter

A segment of an image divided by two indexes.

Dolby Digital format Dolby Digital is an audio data compression technology developed by Dolby Laboratories. This is known as “Dolby Surround.” The output signals are composed of 1 channel of woofer for playback of the low sound, in addition to right and left of front, center, and right and left of rear. This is called 5.1 channel surround. 2-channel playback is available for the DVO- 1000MD.

Finalize

To arrange data on a recorded DVD disc so that it can be played back with another piece of DVD equipment.

A DVD+RW disc is finalized when it is unloaded after being recorded. However, finalization is required even when a disc is played back using equipment compatible with DVD+RW discs. The disc can be recorded on again even if it is finalized.

Index

An index is a mark put at a desired point during playback or recording. The DVO-1000MD can place up to 99 indexes for one title and up to 256 indexes on one disc.

Mbps

Mbps is the abbreviation of Mega bits per second.

Mbps is used to indicate the transmission speed of data. Bit is the unit used to indicate the size of data handled in computers. 1Mbps means that 1,000,000 digital signals can be handled for one second.

Original title

Titles actually recorded on the DVD+RW (VR mode).

Once they are edited, they cannot be restored to their original state.

Region code

A code to specify the region where the disc can be played back. DVD recorders and DVD players have their own region codes. A disc can be played back only when the region codes of both the player and the recorder are the same.

Title

The largest unit of images or music recorded on a DVD. Normally, for image software, one film is one title, and for music software, one album (or a piece of music) is one title. With the DVO-1000MD, one title is the image recorded from the start of recording to the end of recording.
