When you add a hard disk, it must be initialized. Use 6. HDD SET of MAIN MENU 2.

Highlight DISK INITIALIZE and turn the Shuttle dial clockwise.
Initializing begins.
When initializing is completed, the size of the added disk is displayed on the DISK 2 line.
Activating the mirroring function
When the unit is equipped with two hard disks, the mirroring function to record the same data on both of the disks can be activated.
MIRRORING: Set to ON to activate the mirroring function.
PLAYBACK DRIVE: Select the drive from which to read the data for playback if data are recorded on both drives with the mirroring function.
Note
In mirroring, the available maximum recording cycle will be halved. When you set MIRRORING to ON, a confirmation message is displayed.
When you select YES to turn on mirroring, the recording cycles you can select when setting the recording conditions will be limited.
