Chapter 1: Introduction

1-3 Server Chassis Features

The following is a general outline of the main features of the SC512LF-260 chas- sis.

System Power

When confi gured as a SuperServer 6014L-M, the SC512LF-260 chassis includes a single 260W power supply.

Serial ATA Subsystem

For the 6014L-M, the SC512LF-260 chassis was designed to support one Serial ATA hard drive.

Note: The operating system you use must have RAID support to enable the hot- swap capability of the Serial ATA drives.

Control Panel

The SC512LF-260's control panel provides important system monitoring and control information. LEDs indicate power on, network activity, hard disk drive activity and system overheat conditions. The control panel also includes a main power button and a reset button.

Rear I/O Panel

The SC512LF-260 is a mini 1U rackmount chassis. Its I/O panel provides one PCI expansion slot, one COM port (another is internal), two USB ports, PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports, a VGA port and two Gb Ethernet ports.

Cooling System

The SC512LF-260 chassis has an innovative cooling design that features an air shroud and two 4-cm counter-rotating system cooling fans. Each of these fans plug into a chassis fan header on the serverboard. The air shroud channels the airfl ow generated by the fans to effi ciently cool the processor area of the system.

A fan speed control setting in BIOS allows fan speed to be determined by system temperature [the recommended setting is 3-pin (Server)].
