Temperature Sender (GM 3000–D)

The temperature sender is located on the top right side of the water outlet box. It has a green connector with blue and black wires. The sender supplies a signal to the glow control unit (Fig. 31).

CAUTION

Make sure engine is cool and coolant system is depressurized before removing the thermistor.

1.Lower the coolant level in the engine and remove the thermistor from the water pump.

2.Put the sender in a container of oil with a thermome ter and slowly heat the oil (Fig. 33).

CAUTION

Handle the hot oil with extreme care to prevent personal injury or fire.

3.Check resistance of the sender with a multimeter. Check resistance between pin 1 and the sender casing (Fig. 33).

A.The resistance should be from 1088.8 to 1225.4 OHMS at 104_F (40_C).

B.As the temperature increases, the resistance should be from 166.2 to 185.2 OHMS at 212_F (100_C).
