Fault-Tolerance Capabilities
The ONline System Conce ntrator provides fault tolerance thro ugh
redundant features, such a s an optional backup po wer supply, backup
controller module, redundant ca ble links, and backup concen trator
capability.

Backup Power Supply

An optional second power supply ca n be used to backup the primary
power supply in case of a power failure. Should the primary power supply
fail, the backup power supply tak es over automatically. In addition, onc e a
backup power supply has been ins tal led, you can replace a failed primary
power supply without shutting dow n the system.

Load Sharing

The load-sharing function pro vides uninterrupted power to mod ule s
installed in a concentrator with two pow er supplies. If the active power
supply fails, the concentrator automati cally switches to the other power
supply without interrupting the netwo rk.
The following ONline 17-Sl ot System Concentrators hav e load-sharing
capability:
Model 5017C-LS
Model 5017C with load-sharing upgrade
To determine if your mo del 5017C concentrator has load-sharing hardwa re,
check the rear of the concentrator c hassis for a label reading “Upgraded
w/30-028 6.” If this label is present, the concentrator has received the
load-sharing upgrade.
In order for load sharing to work, the Fault-Tolerant Controller Module
model 5000M-RCLS must be installed. This co ntroller monitors the
concentrator's load-sharing function.
