Caution: The concentrator should h ave two fans running at all
times to cool the unit properl y. You should therefore
have: (A) a power supply (with built-in fan) and a fan
unit installed or (B) two power supplies installed .
Power Requirements
3Com recommends using a 15 ampere electrical wire (branch circ uit) to
supply power to the concentrator. This circuit must be grou nded to a
safety ground (protected e arth ground), not to neutral t hat carries current
back to the transformer. Do not use the electri ca l conduit pipe as the only
means of grounding.
Rack Mount Installation Requirements
For rack mount installation of the ONline System Conce ntrator you need a
standard nineteen-inch EIA config ured rack. The rack and its environme nt
also should meet the following specificatio ns:
❑If the rack has an open back and sides:
– the rack must be bolted to the floor
– the top of the rack may need to be braced to the wall
❑the rack must be grounded
❑there must be 10.5" (26.7 cm) (6U) of vertical space in the rack for
each 17-slot concentrator
❑the unit location in the rac k must be less than 6 fee t (2 meters) from
the nearest AC outlet
❑patch panels should already b e installed in the rack for easi er ca ble
management
