Connecting to a twisted-pair Ethernet network

Follow this procedure to connect your Macintosh to an Ethernet network that uses twisted-pair cable. The hardware connection requires a twisted-pair patch cord with an RJ-45 telephone-style connector. You plug the patch cord into a wall plate that is connected to a centralized 10Base-T hub.

To connect your Macintosh to a twisted-pair Ethernet network:

Shut down your Macintosh.

Plug one end of the twisted-pair patch cord into the 10Base-T Ethernet port on your Macintosh.

Plug the other end of the twisted-pair patch cord into an RJ-45 wall outlet that is connected to a twisted-pair Ethernet network.
