Using the broadcast ssId fea ture
note: This advanced feature should be employed by advanced
users only�
For security, you can cho ose not to broadca st your network’s SS ID�
Doing so will keep your n etwork name hidd en from computer s that
are scanning for the pr esence of wirele ss networks� To turn off the
broadcast of the SSID, re move the check mar k from the box nex t to
“Broadcast SSID”, and then click “Apply Change s”� The change is
immediate� Each compute r now needs to be s et to connect to yo ur
specific SSID; an SSID of “ANY” will no long er be accepted� Re fer to
the documentation of you r wireless netwo rk adapter for inf ormation on
making this change�
Qos (Quality of service) Configuration
QoS prioritizes impor tant data on you r network, such as multimedia
content and Voice over IP ( VoIP), so it will not be interfered w ith by other
data being sent over the network� Based on 802�11e, you can turn this
feature on or off by se lecting it from t he drop-down men u and choosing
the acknowledgement mo de you want to use� If you plan to strea m
multimedia content or u se VoIP on your netwo rk, we recommend that
you enable the QoS feat ure�
Protected Mode switch
As part of the 802�11g specification , Protected mode e nsures proper
operation of 802�11g clients and acce ss points when th ere is heavy
802�11b traffic in the operating envir onment� When Prote cted mode is
ON, 802�11g scans for other wireless n etwork traffic before it transmi ts
data� Therefore, using this mode in envi ronments with HE AVY 802�11b
traffic or interfer ence achieves bes t performance results� If you ar e in an
environment with very little—or no—other wir eless network t raffic, your
best performance w ill be achieved wit h Protected mode OF F�
