FEATHERBOARD
A fsatherboard is a device usedto heJpcontroithe
workpisce byguiding itsecurely againstthe table or
fence. Faatharboardsareespecially usefulwhen ripping
smallworkpiecesand for completing non-throughcuts.
The end isangled with a number of short kerfsto give a
frictionhold on the workplaceand locked in place on the
table witheC-clamp, Testthat it can resist kickback.
AWARNING: Placethe featharboardagainst the
uncutportion ofthe wor_oieceto avoidkickback that
couldcause seriouspersonal iniury.
HOW TO MAKE A FEATHERBOARD

The featherboard is an excellent project for the saw.
Selects solid piece of lumber approximately 3/4 in.
thick,3-5/8 in.wide and 18 in.long. Mark the center of
the width on one end of the stock. Miter one-half of the
width to 30@and miter theother half of the same end
to 45°(see page 32 forinformation on miter cuts). Mark
the board from the pointat 6 in., 8 in., 10 in., and12 in.
Drilla 3/8 in. hoteat the 8 in., 10 in.,and 12 in. marks.
Preparethe sawfor ripping as discussed on page 31.
Set the rip fence to allow approximately a 1/4 in.
"finger" to be cut in the stock. Feed the stock onlyto
the mark previouslymade st 6 in. Turn the sawOFF
and allow the blade to completety stop rotating before
removingthe stock. Reset the rip fenceand cut spaced
ripsinto the workpisce 1o allow approximately 1/4 in.
fingersand 1/8 in. spaces between the fingers.

Removethe adjustingclamp knob, bolt,and washer from
themiter fence holder.Place the boltthroughone of the
holesinthe featherboard. Positioningthe fsatherboard
willdepend on the placement of thebolt and the position
ofthe slidingmTtartable onthe mils. Placethe washer
onthe bolt and attach the adiustingclamp knob, Ioosety.
Pos{tionthefeatherboard withthe hex head of the bolt
inthemitertableslotbutdonottighten.Completely
lower the saw blade. Positionthe rip fence _othe desired
edjusb_ant for thecut to be performed and lock. Place
theworkpiece against the fence and over the saw blade
area.Adiust thefeatherbsard to apply resistanceto the
workplacejust forwardof the blade. Securely tightenthe
adjustingclamp knobto secure thefeatherboardin plane.
AttachaC-clamp to furthersecurethe fsatherboardto
the edgeof the slidingmiter table.
