Performing initial system configuration
After you receive your PowerEdge system, you must set up your system in the enclosure, install the
operating system if it is not pre-installed, and set up and configure the system iDRAC IP address.

Setting up your system

1. Unpack the blade.
2. Remove the I/O connector cover from the blade connectors.
CAUTION: While installing the blade, ensure that it is properly aligned with the slot on the
enclosure, to prevent damage to the blade connectors.
3. Install the blade in the enclosure.
4. Turn on the enclosure.
NOTE: Wait for the chassis to initialize before you press the power button.
5. Turn on the blade by pressing the power button on the blade.
Alternatively, you can also turn on the blade by using:
• The blade iDRAC. For more information, see Logging in to iDRAC.
• The enclosure Chassis Management Controller (CMC), after the blade iDRAC is configured on the

You can set up the iDRAC IP address using one of the following interfaces:
• iDRAC Settings utility
• Dell Lifecycle Controller
• Dell Deployment Toolkit
• Chassis or Server LCD panel
• CMC Web interface
You can configure iDRAC using one of the following interfaces:
• iDRAC Web interface
• RACADM
• Remote services
