Part 1: Installation and users guide
This part of the manual consists of an introduction, installation instructions,
and instructions for using and maintaining this 12x8x32 CD-ReWritable
(CD-RW) drive.

Introduction

This section describes this option and the software that comes with it. This
section also contains some information you will need before you install the
option.

Product description

The IBM 12x8x32 CD-RW drive can write and readCD-RW and CD-Recordable
(CD-R) discs, and can read mass-produced stamped CDs. CDs createdwith
this drive are compatible with Multi-Read (MR) CD-ROM and DVD-ROM
drives that can read CD-RWdiscs and other media, and with older non-MR
CD-ROM drives that can read only CD-R and CD-ROM discs.
The drive can write to a CD-R disc at up to 12 times the standard CD-ROM
speed, recording data at up to 1800 KB

per second. At this rate, the drive can
record approximately 650 MB ofinformation on a CD-R disc in about 6
minutes. The drive writes to CD-RW and CD-R discs at differentspeeds. The
drive can write to a high speed CD-RW disc at up to eight times the standard
CD-ROM speed, recording data at up to 1200 KB per second.At this rate, the
drive can record approximately530 MB

of information on a CD-RW disc in
about 9 minutes. The drive can also read data at up to 32 times the standard
CD-ROM speed, or 4800 KB per second.

4 or DirectCD software (included) for Microsoft

standard CD-R and CD-RWmedia.
The CD-RW drive can be installed only in a computer that uses the integrated
drive electronics (IDE) or the enhanced IDE architecture.
