Figure 3-9. Internal Fixed-Length Coaxial Connections From WFB to CAUs

Providing power to various DWBS components is straightforward for the WT and CAU. The WT is battery-powered. The CAU obtains its power through the coaxial cable coming from a WFB.

The RC supplies phantom power to the WFB (over the transmit/receive pairs) if no CAUs are used by the WFB and if the maximum Category 3 4-pair twisted cable length does not exceed 1500 feet for 24 American Wire Gauge (AWG), or 1000 feet for 26 AWG.

The WFB requires an auxiliary power supply if the phantom power requirements are exceeded.

A bulk power supply can also be used.

The auxiliary power supply to the WFB should use unshielded twisted pair cable. The cable length should not exceed 328 feet for 24 AWG or 222 feet for 26 AWG. See the “Representative Wiring of the Category 3 4-Pair Twisted Interface” figure later in this chapter.
