Taking Action and Sports Pictures

Setup Practice Picture: For figure 6.3, I had to photograph a body
boarding competition. Unfortunately the sun was behind the
body boarders, which would have resulted in images with the
front of the subject being too dark if I didn’t use flash.
On Your Own: When photographing a sporting event, if at all
possible, try to keep the sun at your back so that your subject is
lit from the front.
Lighting Practice Picture: Because I had no choice other than to shoot
the body boarder being backlit, I chose to use an SB-600 set to
TTL BL to fill in the shadows.
On Your Own:Depending on the direction of the sun, you may
or may not need to use the Nikon Balanced fill flash feature.
Lens Practice Picture: I used a Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 set to 80mm
to bring the action closer.
On Your Own:Depending on how close you can get to your
subject, you may want to use a telephoto lens.
