Gasoline

Use a good quality gasoline that meets the minimum octane requirement. If knocking or pinging occurs, use a different brand of gasoline or premium unleaded fuel. Yamaha recommends that you use alcohol-free gasoline (see Gasoline with Ethanol) whenever possi- ble.

The use of a poor quality gasoline may result in starting and running problems. If you encounter drivability problems, which you suspect could be related to the fuel you are using, we recommend that you switch to a recognized high quality brand of gasoline, such as a gasoline that is advertised as Top Tier Detergent Gasoline. Failure to comply with these recommendations may also result in unscheduled maintenance, fuel system dam- age, and internal engine damage.

NOTICE

Do not use leaded gasoline. Leaded gas- oline can seriously damage the engine.

Avoid getting water and contaminants in the fuel tank. Contaminated fuel can cause poor performance or engine dam- age. Use only fresh gasoline that has been stored in clean containers.

Gasoline with Ethanol

Two types of gasoline are commonly available in the U.S.A. for use in automobiles and boats: conventional gasoline without Ethanol and gasoline with Ethanol, which is typically referred to as E10 gasoline. According to federal regulations, E10 gasoline may contain up to 10% Ethanol.

A high quality gasoline without Ethanol is the preferred fuel for your Yamaha outboard mo- tor. However, if gasoline with Ethanol is the only fuel available in your area, your Yamaha outboard motor is calibrated to run properly on fresh E10 gasoline that meets the minimum octane requirement specified for this model.
