●Turn the steering wheel fully to port and starboard. Check that operation is smooth and unrestricted throughout the whole range with no binding or excessive free play.

●Operate the remote control lever several times to check that there is no hesitation in its travel. Operation should be smooth over the complete range of motion.

●Inspect the throttle and shift cable connec- tions for damage and looseness.

Engine shut-off cord (lanyard)

Check the engine shut-off cord and clip for damage, such as cuts, breaks, and wear.

Engine oil

1.Place the outboard motor in a vertical po- sition (not tilted). NOTICE: If the out- board motor is not level, the oil level indicated on the oil dipstick may not be accurate. [ECM01861]

2.Remove the oil dipstick and wipe it clean.

1.Oil dipstick

3.Insert the oil dipstick completely and re- move it again.

4.Check that the oil level on the oil dipstick is between the upper and lower marks. Consult your Yamaha dealer if the oil lev- el is not at the proper level or if it appears milky or dirty.
