DON'TOVERLOADGENERATOR
Capacity
You must make sure your generator can supply enough rated (running) and surge (starting) watts for the items you will power at the sametime. Foliowthese simple steps:
4.Hug in and turn on the next ioad.
5.Again, permit the generator to stabiiize.
6.Repeatsteps 4 and 5 for each additional load.
NEVERadd more loads than the generator capacity. Take speciai care to consider surge loads in generator capacity, as describedabove.
1. | Selectthe items you wiii power at the same time. |
2. | Total the rated (running) watts of these items. This is |
Rated*
Additional
the amount of power your generator must produce to |
keep your items running. |
3. Estimate how many surge (starting) watts you wiii need. |
Surge wattage is the short burst of power neededto |
start electric |
circular saw or refrigerator. Becausenot aii motors start |
at the sametime, totai surge watts can be estimated by |
adding only the item(s) with the higilest additional |
surge watts to the total rated watts from step 2. |
Example:
Tool or Appliance | Rated | Additional | Surge
(Running) Watts | (Starting) | Watts
| |||||
Window Air | 1200 | 1800 | |||
Conditioner |

Refrigerator | 8OO | 1600 | |||
Deep Freezer | 5O0 | 5OO | |||
Television | 50O |

U,ht _75 Watts' | 75 |
|
| ||
| 3075 | Total | 1800 Highest | ||
| Running | Watts | Surge Watts | ||
Total Rated(Running) Watts |
| = 3075 |
| ||
HighestAdditional Surge Watts |
| = 1800 |
| ||
Total Generator Output Required | = 4875 |
|
NOTE:The rated (running) watts cannot exceed5600. Also, given the 5600 watt rated iimit, additional surge (starting) watts cannot exceed8600.
Pewer Management
To prolong the iife of your generator and attached devices, it is important to take care when adding electrical loads to your generator. There shouid be nothing connected to the generator outlets before starting it'sengine. The correct and safe way to managegenerator power is to sequentially add loads as follows:
1. With nothing connected to the generator, start the |
engine as describedin this manual. |
