6.3TASK - - LAMP INSTALLATION AND REPLACEMENT Equipment, Tools & Materials Required:

Long 7/64 inch hex driver

5/32 inch Allen wrench

Standard Flat-head Screwdriver

Procedure for Installing and Replacing Imaging Lamp :

1.Disconnect the power completely; remove the AC power cord.

2.Remove the front cover, both side panels, and the back cover from the scanner. Be sure to disconnect the earth-ground wire connecting the front cover to the scanner frame as well as the power supply connection wires going to the cooling fan mounted on the back cover.

3.If replacing a lamp, disconnect the wires attached to the pin at both ends of the old lamp by gently pulling the wires straight away from the end of the tube.

4.Loosen the two set screws. Looking at the lamp from inside the scanner, you will notice that there is one white plastic Allen-head set screws in the two lamp holders on both sides of the scanner. These two screws must be loosened with a 7/64” hex driver before removing or installing the lamp.

5.If the lamp is in place, slide the tube out from the left side of the scanner (the left side has better clearance for removing or installing lamps). Slide the new fluorescent tube into the front position of these lamp holders until both ends of the tube are supported.

6.With the scanner lid open, you will be able to see the lamp through the scanning window. Turn the tube until the top of the aperture on the tube is at the top edge of the scan window and the rest of the aperture is open towards the scan window. This directs the light onto the scan window.

7.Tighten the two set screws.

8.Reconnect the wires to the pin on the lamp. There is one wire on each side of the scanner that can be connected to either pin.

9.Reinstall the covers, making sure to reconnect the cooling fan on the rear cover and power up the scanner. The lamp should come on when the scanner is powered on.
