Appendix B: ProfibusDP Slave Communication

Overview

This appendix describes the Gateway’s support for Pro- fibus DP and details the configuration steps necessary to set up a Graco Gateway with an S7300 PLC, CPU315-2DP via Profibus. It does not provide a detailed description of Profibus, but only a brief introduc- tion, necessary to define the terms that are used throughout the remainder of this document.

Introduction

Profibus DP stands for “Profibus for Decentralized Peripherals”. Profibus DP is a device level bus that sup- ports both analog and discrete signals. It has wide- spread usage for such items as remote I/O systems, motor control centers, and variable speed drives. Profi- bus DP communicates at speeds from 9.6 Kbps to 12 Mbps over distances from 100 to 1,200 meters.

The protocol supported by the Profibus DP option card is Profibus DP Slave. Therefore, the Graco Gateway must be linked to a Profibus network with a PLC.

Profibus Port Protocols

The Profibus option card has one Profibus port. See FIG. 47.
