As of software Release 2.8, the system value AUDASYS can be set to allow or prevent the user from changing the type of alerting (audio or visual), as specified in Chapter 4 of the
4600 Series IP Telephone LAN Administrator Guide:
●When AUDASYS is set to 0, the user is allowed visual alerting only (audible alerting is not allowed, regardless of the value NVALERT).
●When AUDASYS is set to 1, the user is allowed audible alerting only (visual alerting is not allowed, regardless of the value of NVALERT). When visual alerting is not allowed (AUDASYS is set to 1), the user is not allowed to reduce the audio alerter below the minimum loudness level.
●When AUDASYS is set to 2, the user is allowed visual alerting, and is also allowed to change to audible alerting (regardless of the value of NVALERT).
●When AUDASYS is set to 3, the user is allowed audible alerting, and is also allowed to change to visual alerting (regardless of the value of NVALERT).
●When AUDASYS is not set in the settings file, the default value of 3 is used unless NVALERT is set to 0.
Because it does not have a display, the 4601 IP Telephone’s Call Appearance Line a’s indicator winks out the current NVALERT value 600 milliseconds on, 200 milliseconds off, where one wink represents “0” for audible only and two winks represent “1” for audible/ visual. If the current value is zero (the default), Call Appearance Line a’s indicator flutters five times 50 milliseconds on, 50 milliseconds off instead of winking. After the 4601 “displays” the current NVALERT value, the Message Waiting indicator at the top of the telephone and the Message button LED on the faceplate flash 500 milliseconds on, 500 milliseconds off to indicate an entry is expected.
