Section 11: Hard Disk Caching

Verifying the Hard Disk

The caching facility requires at least one hard disk to be connected to the SCSI bus or the IDE bus. The StorPoint CD will automatically format hard disks and use them for hard disk caching. You can connect up to six or seven hard disks to your StorPoint CD depending on model.

Follow these steps to verify that a valid hard disk is connected to your StorPoint

CD:

1.Start your Web browser and enter the name or IP address of the StorPoint CD in the location/address field.

2.Click admin. You will be prompted for the Server username and password. By default, this is set to root and pass. To change the Server password, see “Server Password ” on page 24.

3.On the Server Settings page, click the hard disk icon to verify that the StorPoint CD has detected a hard disk that can be used for hard disk caching. Information about the hard disk will be displayed to the right.

If the hard disk has been used before and includes a partition table it needs to be formatted before it can be used for hard disk caching. Click Format to do that. The formatting will remove all the information currently cached on the hard disk. This is not something you would normally want to do.
