EXTENSION CORDS
Useonly 3-wire extension cordsthat have 3-prong
groundingplugsand 3-pole receptaclesthat accept
thetool's plug.When using a powertool at a consid-
erabledistance from the powersource, use an
extensioncord heavy enoughto carrythe current that
thetool will draw.An undersized extensioncord will
causea drop in linevoltage, resultingin a loss of
powerand causing the motorto overheat. Use the
chartprovided belowto determinethe minimumwire
size requiredin an extension cord.Only roundjack-
etedcords listed by Underwriter'sLaboratories(UL)
shouldbe used.
Length of Extension Cord Wire Size (A.W.G.)
Up to 25 feet 14
26-100 feet 12
When workingwith thetool outdoors, use an exten-
sioncord that is designed for outsideuse. This is
indicatedby the lettersWA on the cord's jacket.
Beforeusing an extensioncord, inspect itfor looseor
exposedwires and cut or worn insulation.
_k CAUTION: Keepthe cord away from the cutting
area and positionthe cord so that it will not be
caughton lumber, tools,or otherobjects dudng
cuttingoperations.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
YourSears CraftsmanTable Saw is powered by a
precisionbuiltelectricmotor. It should be connected
to a power supply that Is 120 volts, 60 Hz, AC only
(normal household current). Donot operate this tool
ondirectcurrent (DC). A substantialvoltage drop will
causea lossof power andthe motor will overheat. If
thesaw does not operatewhen plugged intoan
outlet,doublecheck the power supply.
SPEED AND WIRING
The no-load speed of your table saw isapproximately
3,600 rpm. This speed is not constantand decreases
undera load or with lower voltage. For voltage, the
wiringin a shopis as importantas the motor's horse-
powerrating. A lineintended onlyfor lights cannot
properlycarrya powertool motor. Wire that isheavy
enoughfor a short distance willbe toolight for a
greaterdistance. A line that can supportone power
tool may not be able to supporttwo orthree tools.
GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
Inthe eventof a malfunctionorbreakdown, grounding
providesa path of least resistancefor electriccurrent
to reducethe riskof electric shock. This tool is
equippedwith anelectric cord having an equipment-
groundingconductorand agroundingplug. The plug
mustbe pluggedinto a matching outletthat is propedy
installedandgrounded in accordance with all local
codesand ordinances.
Do not modifythe plug provided. If it will not fit the
outlet, have the proper outletinstalledby a qualified
electrician.Improperconnectionof the equipment-
groundingconductorcanresult in a risk of electric
shook.The conductorwith insulationhavingan outer
surfacethat is green withor without yellowstripes is
theequipment-groundingconductor. If repairor
replacementofthe electdccord or plug is necessary,
donot connect the equipment-groundingconductorto
aliveterminal.
Checkwith a qualified electricianor service personnel
ifthe groundinginstructionsare notcompletely
understood, orif indoubt as to whether the toolis
properlygrounded.
Repairor replace a damaged orworn cord immedi-
ately.
Thistool is intendedfor use on a circuitthat has an
outletlikethe oneshown in Figure 1. Italso has a
groundingpinlike the one shown.
