6.6 PORT REDIRECT CONFIGURATION SCREENWhen to Use (for 6C105 Chassis)
To redirect frames from one source port to many destination ports or many source ports to one
destination port on a switch module in a 6C105 chassis. Frames received on a source port can be
redirected and transmitted in the frame format in which they are received (normal), or they can be
redirected with a VLAN Tag (TAGGED) or without a VLAN Tag (UNTAGGED). Also, any
errored frames received can be either dropped or forwarded to a destination port.
For example, port 1 can be set as the source port with ports 2 and 5 as the destination ports. Frames
from port 1 are then automatically redirected to ports 2 and 5 according to the configured frame
format, and frames with errors can be either forwarded or dropped according to the screen settings.
The port redirect function is useful for troubleshooting purposes. It allows all inbound and
outbound traffic from one or more source ports to be sent to a destination port where all current
traffic from the source ports can be examined using analyzers, RMON probes, or IDS sensors.
When to Use (for 6C107 Chassis)
To redirect frames in modules installed in a 6C107 chassis. The information above applies to
modules installed in the 6C105 chassis. However, when configuring 6000 series modules installed
in a 6C107 chassis, there are special considerations to take into account when redirecting many
ports to one port, or one port to many ports.
When installing 6X2XX modules into the 6C107 chassis, note the following:
There are no restrictions when all modules in the 6C107 chassis are 6X3XX series and 6X2XX
series modules
Redirecting ports between 6X3XX series and 6X2XX series modules is only possible when all
modules are installed in slots one through five.
NOTE: The switch module supports a maximum of 128 redirect entries configured
including VLAN redirect, port redirect and, if the module has an optional ATM interface
installed, any ATM Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVCs) redirect entries.
NOTE: Although all redirected traffic (including, if desired, errored frames) from a
source port are sent to the destination port, normal switching is still performed for all
frames on the source ports.
