3.8File and Printer Sharing

The Ericsson W3x supports local network storage and printer sharing through the USB port. If an external USB hub is connected, the Ericsson W3x supports connection of up to two storage devices and one printer at the same time.

3.8.1How it Works

The Ericsson W3x uses Samba (www.samba.org) as the base to implement file and printer sharing through SMB/CIFS. SMB and CIFS are the protocols used by Microsoft for sharing and the service is called “smb” on the Ericsson W3x.

Linux Kernel auto detection of USB devices is used as part of the automatic configuration of the storage and printer sharing. When a new USB device (storage or printer) is detected, the Ericsson W3x automatically creates configuration files for Samba containing the new device. It then makes the smb service use the new configuration, thereby sharing the USB device via the SMB/CIFS protocol. This
