Polling Menu
Usethe Polling options to configure your HART Communicator to
automaticallysearch for all or specific connected devices. The HART
protocolallows you to communicate with multiple HART devices on a single
twistedpair of wires over leased telephone lines.
Whenseveral devices areconnected in the s ame loop (multidropped), each
devicemust be assigned a unique address. To find the individual device
addresses,use the Digital Poll option to find each connected device in the
loopand list them by tag number.
Communicationbetween the Communicator and multidropped transmitters is
digital,with the analog output fixed. In a multidrop installation, each
transmitteris identified by a unique polling address of 0 or 1–15 and
respondsto the commands defined in the HART protocol.
Usethe up and down arrow keys to highlight the desired polling option:
Press (F4)to enter the highlighted option and return to the C onfigure
Communicatormenu. Or, press (F3)to return to t he Configure
Communicatormenu without c hanging the Polling.
Fromthe Configure Commun icator menu (Figure 1-25),pres s to
accessthe Polling menu (Figure 1-26).

ThePolling options are:
NeverPoll connects to a device at address 0, and if not found, will not poll
fordevices at address 1–15.
AskBefore Polling connects to a device at address 0, and if not found, asks
ifyou want to poll for devices at address 1–15.
AlwaysPoll connects to a device ataddress 0, and if not found, will
automaticallypoll for devices at address 1–15.
DigitalPoll automatically polls for devices at address 1–15, regardless.
PollU sing Tagasks the user for a tag to use to connect to a device.
