SECTION 1The HART®Communicator

INTRODUCTION

TheHART (Highway Addres sable Remote Transducer) Communicator
(Figure1-1) is a hand-held interface that provides a common communication
linkto all HART-compatible, microprocessor-based instruments.
Section1 discusses theHART Communicator Connect ions, Liquid Crystal
Display,Keypad, Offline and Online menu, Battery Pack, Memory Module,
datapack 100, Maintenance, and Year 2000 Compatibility. It also includes
shortoverviews on some ofthe Communicator ’s functionality.
Section2 describes tasksthat are common to Fisher- Rosemount’s HART
devicesand includes some of the common screen displays.
Section3 displays typical exam plesof m enu treessp ecific toF isher-
Rosemountproducts.
YourHART Communicator interfaces with any HART-compatible device from
anywiring termination point using a 4–20 mA loop, provided a minimum load
resistanceof 250 ohms is present between the Communicator and the power
supply.Your HART Communicator uses the Bell 202 frequency shift key
(FSK)technique of high-frequency digital signals superimposed on a
standardtransmitter current loop of4–20 mA. Becaus e the total high-
frequencysignal voltage added to the loop amountsto zero, communicat ion
toand from a HART-compatible device does not disturb the 4–20 mA signal.
