SERVICING THE HART COMMUNICATOR
Asshown in Figure1-42, the modular const ruction of the HART
Communicatorallows eas y disassembly of the battery pack, the Memory
Module, and the data pack 100. This section discusses how to change
alkalinebatteries, recharge the NiCad battery pack, upgrade the
Communicatorsoftware, and install and remove the data pack 100.

Calibrating the HART Communicator
Itis not necessary or possible to calibrate your HARTCommunicator. It has
nomeasurement circuitry and does not measure analogoutput from the field
device. The Communicator is strictly a communication interface that
communicatesdigitally with HART-compatible devices. It is not applicable to
NISTstandards, and is not subject to calibration.
Using a Battery Pack
TheHART Communicator is a vailable with a battery pack that holds five AA
alkalinecells, or with a rechar geable nickel-cadmium power pack. The
alkalinecells last approximately 15 0 hours, and the NiCad cells last
approximately60 hours with normal usage. When approximately one hour of
batterylife remains, a low-battery iconappears in the upper rightcorner of
thedisplay.
