Phase factor (PhaseFactor)

Definition

System-wide factor by which the priority of each multi-phase job is increased.

 

 

Impact

The purpose of this parameter is to increase the priority of multiple phase jobs (migration

 

to multiple copies or recall of files that span multiple media volumes) after some phases

 

are already finished, such as migration phases with multiple copying, where each copy

 

represents one phase. In case the multiple copying process was overtaken by another job

 

with a higher priority, the files are still waiting to be migrated to the FSE media on the

 

disk buffer thus occupying disk space. By setting a higher value, the priority is increased

 

after each copy.

 

 

Backup job priority (BackupJobPriority)

Definition

System-wide priority level for backup jobs on a scale of 1 to 10000.

 

 

Impact

The purpose of this parameter is to define the initial priority of backup jobs. You should

 

adjust it according to the priorities defined in the FSE partition configuration for other

 

jobs (migration, recall, recovery, maintenance).

 

 

System administration job priority (SystemAdminPriority)

Definition

System-wide priority level for administrative jobs (formatting and initializing) on a scale of

 

1 to 10000.

 

 

Impact

The purpose of this parameter is to define the initial priority of administrative jobs. You

 

should adjust it according to the priorities defined in the FSE partition configuration for

 

other jobs (migration, recall, recovery, maintenance).

 

 

Default system allocation and job priority policy

Default system allocation and job priority policy is defined in the FSE configuration template for FSE system configuration. For details, see ”Template for FSE system configuration” on page 307.

Partition allocation and job priority policy

When a new Partition Manager starts (for a new partition), it reads and sets the parameters for the new partition. When a Partition Manager shuts down, the Resource Manager is notified in order to free up all reserved drives for the respective partition; consequently, its parameters are not considered during resource allocation.

Maximum number of drives (MaxNumDrives)

Definition

Maximum number of all drives that can be used for all jobs by the partition.

 

 

Impact

With this parameter you can prevent a single partition from using all the drives and not

 

leaving any drives for other partitions and administrative jobs. You should carefully

 

balance resources. Note that all other jobs are queued if the Partition Manager uses the

 

maximum number of drives.

 

 

Maximum number of drives for migration (MaxNumDrivesMigration)

Definition

Maximum number of drives that can be used for migration by the partition.

 

 

Impact

The purpose of this parameter is to prevent the respective Partition Manager from using

 

all the drives at once for migration jobs. You should carefully balance resources

 

according to your environment.
