Monitoring and analyzing FSE log files

To monitor and analyze FSE error logs, use Log Analyzer. Log Analyzer allows you to monitor FSE error logs in specified time intervals, analyze them based on patterns which are configurable for each individual log file, and send the results of the analysis to specified e-mail addresses or as SNMP traps. The results are collected in a package and sent by e-mail at configurable time intervals.

The log files analyzed by Log Analyzer depend on the platform.

On Linux systems, the following files can be analyzed:

FSE event log /var/opt/fse/log/fse.log

The system event log file /var/log/messages

On Windows systems, the following file can be analyzed:

FSE event log — %InstallPath%\var\log\fse.log

The value of %InstallPath% depends on the choice made in the FSE installation process. It defaults to C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\FSE.

Configuring monitoring and analysis of FSE log files

To set up Log Analyzer, you must consider the following questions:

What sort of information are you interested in the monitored files?

Do you want to have the results of the analysis delivered by e-mail, handled as SNMP traps or dumped to files?

The configuration data is specified in four configuration files:

Two general configuration files (loganalyzer.config and loganalyzer_messages.config), containing general, mailing, and SNMP related configuration for the FSE event log file (/var/opt/fse/log/fse.log) and system event log file (/var/log/messages), respectively.

Two rules configuration files (loganalyzerrules.py and loganalyzerrules_massages.py), containing the log analysis configuration for the FSE event log file (/var/opt/fse/log/fse.log) and system event log file (/var/log/messages), respectively.
