Input Editing Commands

 

Moving the Insertion Point

Command

Description

 

 

ctrl-b

Move back one character.

 

 

ctrl-f

Move forward one character.

 

 

ctrl-a

Move to the start of the current line.

 

 

ctrl-e

Move to the end of the line.

 

 

ctrl-l

Clear the screen and redraw the current line, leaving the current

 

line at the top of the screen.

 

 

 

Command History

 

A history of recently executed commands is stored in a buffer and can

 

be accessed with the following commands:

ctrl-r

(Reverse-search-history) Search backward starting at the current

 

line and moving up incrementally through the command history.

 

 

ctrl-s

(Forward-search-history) Search forward starting at the current

 

line and moving down incrementally through the command

 

history.
