Install a DC Power Supply

To install a DC power supply, follow this procedure (see Figure 37 and Figure 38):

1.Verify that there is no power flowing to the power supply from the external power source, so that the voltage across the leads of the power cables is 0 V. Ensure that there is no chance that the cable leads might become active during the procedure.

2.Verify that the power switch for the power supply (located on the power supply faceplate) is in the OFF (O) position.

3.Verify that the grounding cable is attached to the chassis and properly connected to an earth ground.

4.Attach an electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist and connect the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis. For more information about ESD, see “Prevent Electrostatic Discharge Damage” on page 134.

5.Grasp the handle on the power supply faceplate with one hand and place the other hand under the supply to support it.

6.Align the rear of the supply with the slide guides inside the chassis and slide the supply into the chassis until it contacts the midplane.

7.Tighten (but do not overtighten) the thumbscrews on the power supply faceplate. Turn both thumbscrews simultaneously and at about the same rate (turning them alternately or at very different rates can cause the power supply to become lodged in the slot, making it difficult to turn the screws).

8.If necessary, strip a short section of the protective cladding from the end of each power cable so that the metal core can come in direct contact with the quick-connect terminal.
