•Usethebatteryuntilthechargeiscompletelydepleted;thatis,usethebatteryuntilthebatterystatus
indicatorstartsblinkingor ange.
•Rechargethebatterycompletelybeforeusingit.Thebatteryisfullychargedifthebatteryindicatorshows
greenwhentheacpoweradapterispluggedin.
•Alwaysusepowermanagementfeaturessuchaspowermodes,screenblank,sleep,andhibernation.
Managingyourbatterypower
Toachievethebestbalancebetweenperformanceandpowersaving,adjustyourpowerplansettings.

Power-savingmodes
Thereareseveralmodesthatyoucanuseatanytimetoconservepower.Thissectionintroduceseach
modeandgivestipsontheeffectiveuseofthebatterypower.
Introducingthepower-savingmodes
•Screenblank(fortheWindows7operatingsystemonly)
Thecomputerdisplayrequiresconsiderablebatterypower.T oturnoffpowertothedisplay,right-clickthe
batterygaugeiconfromtheWindowsnoticationareaandselectPoweroffdisplay.
•Sleep
Insleepmode,yourworkissavedtomemory,andthenthesolidstatedriveortheharddiskdriveandthe
computerdisplayareturnedoff.Whenyourcomputerwakesup,yourworkisrestoredwithinseconds.
Toputyourcomputerintosleepmode,pr essFn+F4.Toreturnfromsleepmode,presstheFnkey.
Dependingonthecomputermodel,yourcomputermightsupportthe30DayStandbyfunction.When
thisfunctionisenabled,thecomputerconsumesevenlesspowerinthesleepmodeandtakesonly
secondstoresumenormaloperationwhenyoupressthePowerbutton.Toenablethe30DayStandby
function,dothefollowing:

Byusingthismode,youcanturnoffyourcomputercompletelywithoutsavinglesore xitingfromany
programsthatarerunning.Whenthecomputerentershibernation,allopenprograms,folders,andles
aresavedtotheharddisk,andthenthecomputerturnsoff.
