Althoughyourcomputerisdesignedtofunctionreliablyinnormalworkenvironments,youneedtouse
commonsenseinhandlingit.Byfollowingtheseimportanttips,youwillgetthemostuseandenjoyment
outofyourcomputer.
Becarefulaboutwhereandhowyouwork
•Storepackingmaterialssafelyoutofthereachofchildrentopreventtheriskofsuffocationfromplastic
bags.
•Keepyourcomputerawayfrommagnets,activatedcellularphones,electricalappliances,orspeakers
(morethan13cmor5inch).
•Avoidsubjectingyourcomputertoextremetemperatures(below5°C/41°Forabove35°C/95°F).
•Someappliances,suchascertainportabledesktopfansorairpuriers,canproducenegativeions.Ifa
computerisclosetosuchanappliance,andisexposedforanextendedtimetoaircontainingnegative
ions,itmaybecomeelectrostaticallycharged.Suchachargemaybedischargedthroughyourhands
whenyoutouchthekeyboardorotherpartsofthecomputer ,orthr oughconnectorsonI/Odevices
connectedtoit.Eventhoughthiskindofelectrostaticdischarge(ESD)istheoppositeofadischargefrom
yourbodyorclothingtothecomputer,itposesthesameriskofacomputermalfunction.
Yourcomputerisdesignedandmanufacturedtominimizeanyeffectsofelectrostaticcharge.Anelectrostatic
chargeaboveacertainlimit,however,canincreasetheriskofESD.Therefore,whenusingthecomputer
closetoanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions,givespecialattentiontothefollowing:
•Avoiddirectlyexposingyourcomputertotheairfromanappliancethatcanpr oducenegativeions.
•Keepyourcomputerandperipheralsasfaraspossiblefromsuchanappliance.
•Whereverpossible,groundyourcomputertofacilitatesafeelectrostaticdischarge.
Note:Notallsuchappliancescauseasignicantelectrostaticcharge.
Begentlewithyourcomputer
•Avoidplacinganyobjects(includingpaper)betweenthedisplayandthekeyboardorthepalmrest.
•Yourcomputerdisplayisdesignedtobeopenedandusedatanangleslightlygreaterthan90degrees.
Donotopenthedisplaybeyond180degrees,asthismightdamagethecomputerhinge.
•Donotturnyourcomputeroverwhiletheacpoweradapterispluggedin.Thiscouldbreaktheadapter
plug.
Carryyourcomputerproperly
•Beforemovingyourcomputer,besuretoremoveanymedia,turnoffattacheddevices,anddisconnect
cordsandcables.
•Whenpickingupyouropencomputer,holditbythebottom.Donotpickuporholdyourcomputerby
thedisplay .
Handlestoragemediaanddrivesproperly
•Ifyourcomputercomeswithanopticaldrive,donottouchthesurfaceofadiscorthelensonthetray .
•WaituntilyouheartheCDorDVDclickintothecenterpivotofthedrivebeforeclosingthetray.
•Onyourcomputer,useonlyopticaldrivesdesignedforusewiththeSerialUltrabaySlimbay.
Note:Y oucaninstalla9.5-mm-thickSerialUltrabaySlimdeviceintheSerialUltrabaySlimbay.
•Wheninstallingtheharddiskdrive,solidstatedrive,oropticaldrive,followtheinstructionsshippedwith
yourhardware,andapplypressureonlywhereneededonthedevice.
