UNIX Host on the LAN
When troubleshooting a UNIX host on the LAN, make surethat:
• The host isbooted and functioning properly.
• The host can communicatewith other network nodes using
standard UNIX networkingfeatures and utilities.
• All Remote Access Concentratorsoftware is installed
properlyon the host. See the Software InstallationNotes that
come with the Remote Access Concentrator softw are
release.
•Theerpcd daemon or tftp server (which loads the
operationalimage to theRemote Access Concentrator) is
running.
InTestMode, erpcdonthe loadserver hostdisplaysboot progressreports.
In Monitor Mode, the Remote Access Concentratordisplays boot
progress reports.The Remote Access Concentrator displays its reports
onthe serviceportterminal thatinvokesits MonitorMode; erpcddisplays
its reports on the UNIX terminal that invokesits Test Mode.
When running erpcd,all paths are relative to the /usr/spool/erpcd/bfs
directoryfor both boots and dumps. The /usr/spool/erpcd/bfs directory
is a default pathname and canbe c hanged.
1. Toplace erpcd on the load server host into Test Mode, kill
theer pcd program (requiressuperuser privileges) and
restart it using the –D option:
# /usr/annex/erpcd –D5
2. Placethe Remote Access Concentrator into Monitor Mode.
(This resets the Remote Access Concentra tor,so warn users
beforeyou do it.) Then, at the monitorprompt, enter:
monitor:: boot -v
