Completing the Hot Swap
Tocomplete the hot swap of the Remote Access Concentrator:
1. Verifythat th ej umper settings on the replacement module
aret hesame as the settings on the original module.
2. Usethe procedures outlinedin Chapter 2 to insert the
replacementmodule into the System 5000 chassis.
3. Boot the replacement Remote Ac cess Concentrator.
The savedEEPROM information is read by the Remote Access
Concentratorat boot time only in a hot swap situation. The
Remote Access Concentrator compares the “bo ard serial
number” field(in the supervisory module nonvolatile memory)
againstits internal serial number. After loading the operational
image, theinitialization process sets up the network interface
andthenreadstheparams.n.n.n.n file from the host server, and
places it in local memory. The EEPROM file contents are
decrypteda nd writtento the EEPROM. The buffer containing
the filesis then discarded. This process may take several
minutes tocomplete.
4. If applicable, obtain a new LAT key and enter it.
