Boot Failures
The procedures for troubleshootinga power-up failure established that:
The hardwareis functional.
The Ethernetinterface is functional.
TheRemote Access Concentratorcan communicatewith the
Ethernet.
Ifthe R emote Access Concentrator still is not booted, you must pinpoint
the problem. The boot error report can help in this process.
The Remote AccessConcentrator generates a boot error report
onlyif itopens the boot fileand an error occurs during the boot
process.
Generally,two problems cause boot failures:
The Remote AccessConcentrator is not configured properly.
The load serverhost is not responding.
The Remote Access Concentrator requestsa boot image from a
pre-definedload host or by broadcasting a boot request. When a host
responds, the Remote Access Concentrator loads its operational image.
The Remote Access Concentrator requires setting certain configuration
parameters.Enter theseparameters using the MonitorMode commands
forthe initial boot sequence. See Chapter 3 for more information on these
commands.
Ifthe problem is a non-responsive host, the boot error report displays that
informationunder theRspT/O’sfield.This fieldindicatesthatthe Remote
Access Concentrator timed outwhile wa itingfor a response to its boot
request; if this field is empty, check the Remote Access Concentrator’s
configuration parameters.
