Chapter 4 Troubleshooting Procedures

The supervisorym odule, located in slot 0 of the 5000 hub, performs
severalfunctions for the hub and the modulesinstalled in the hub. The
supervisory module stores the primary configurations of all modules
installed in the hub. Each user-installed module also stores a working
copy of its configurationinformation. When a change is made to this
workingcopy, the module stores the new user configurationin its onboard
nonvolatilememory.
The supervisorymodule periodically polls user-installed modules in the
hub across the Common Management Bus (CMB). As part of the poll,
the NMM collects module configurationinformation and stores the
informationin its local nonvolatile memory foruse in comparing and/or
restoring a module configurationafter a power cycle or reset.
What happens to a module when it is inserted in the hub depends on a
combination of conditions:
If you removea module, change jumper settings, and
reinsertthe module in its original slot, the new jumper
settings takeeffect immediately. The supervisory module
recordsthe newconfiguration information in its nonvolatile
memory.
If you replacea module in a slot with a different type of
module, thenew module is directed to use its default
configuration.
If the supervisorymodule is not operational, a module
whose configuredslot number matches its installedlocation
can use its own storedconfiguration; otherwise, the module
revertsto its default configuration.
